As it was reported a few days ago by Master Herald, the U.S. Department of State has already selected the winners of the 2016 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, which is also known as the Green Card Lottery.
Upon checking the status of their applications at the official websites of the 2016 DV Program, the selectees will be directed to a confirmation page that will provide further instructions, including information on fees connected with immigration to the United States.
Accordingly, the Department of State does not mail out notification letters or notify selectees by email, and U.S. Embassies and Consulates will not provide a list of selectees. Individuals who have not been selected also will be notified ONLY through Entrant Status Check.
The winners of this program are requested to double-check their qualification for this program. It is worth mentioning that, the Department of State doesn’t review applications before announcing the winners. Many selectees won’t end up receiving their green cards because they simply don’t meet the requirements.
Selectees are required to make sure that they have a high school education, or its equivalent, or two years of qualifying work experience as defined under provisions of U.S. law.
According to the U.S. Department of State, the principal applicant and all family members applying for a diversity visa in the DV-2016 program must complete Form DS-260. They will need to enter their DV case number into the online DS-260 form to access and update the information about themselves and their family that are included in the DV entry.
The winners of the 2016 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, their spouses, and any qualified unmarried children immigrating with the main applicant must participate in the interview at the U.S. embassy.
At the end of the immigrant visa interview at the U.S. Embassy, the consular officer will inform selectees whether their visa application is approved or denied. If denied, the applicants will be informed why they are ineligible to receive a visa.
The American government has already made it clear that the lottery application is an expression of interest in immigrating to the United States. So the winners are not guaranteed to receive U.S. visa and green card. Based on U.S. law, not everyone who applies is qualified or eligible for a visa to come to the United States. Under U.S. law, many factors could make an applicant ineligible to receive a visa.
